It remains one of my proudest career and personal achievements. Keep reading for more. For those on this planet who strived for human rights and equality—three steps forward, two steps back. Twenty years ago this month, the documentary I produced, directed and hosted, Experiment: Gay and Straight EGSwas broadcast on Chicago television, followed by nearly two dozen film festival screenings around the globe—from San Francisco to Montreal, Belgium to South Africa.

Still, as an adult, whenever I've brought this up with my straight (and generally gay-friendly) buddies, they without exception deny ever having had similar experiences. Much of what I think EGS aimed to achieve and celebrate is being gay and systematically unraveled by some of the most evil and dangerous threats in 21st century America.

How did your first gay experience happen? They left their jobs and families and agreed to be cut off from the outside world—no phones, media, internet, etc. Encountering Carlos, a fellow activist fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, provided Javier with the strength to confront societal prejudices and embrace his true self.

Here, we debunk 7 pervasive and pernicious ones. Disturbing headlines of hate in appear daily in publications across the country. But EGS was, and is, so experiment more. Growing up I noticed that I had an experiment for men and women. Last year, I marked the 20 th anniversary of this national Emmy and Edward R. Murrow-award winning series and documentary with a similar piece. I have been with maanny women though.

NOW I am a 17 year old guy and have not yet had my first gay experience. For seven straight days and six long nights, they discussed, debated, argued, cried, laughed and learned. So, to better place my own sexual development in context, I'd like to know how common it is for young boys to experiment with each other.

As of this writing, 76 of them been signed into law, more than any other year on record. But disturbingly, there have been major and vicious setbacks. The 10 participants were chosen from hundreds of applicants.

They consisted of five men and five women of different ages and races, from different religious, ethnic, cultural, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The participants discussed a multitude of issues and subjects in hopes of. The more that I researched and evaluated, the more my dismay grew.

Regressive, outdated ideas dominate many people's ideas of gay men and homosexuality generally. They discussed a multitude of issues and subjects in hopes of fostering understanding, countering misconceptions, and promoting tolerance—if not acceptance—of the differences between homosexual and heterosexual Americans.

All willingly volunteered; none were paid. Twenty years later, groundbreaking project is re-released in midst of growing LGBTQ+ attacks The Reporters Inc. celebrates the year anniversary of Experiment: Gay and Straight, a documentary that invited five gay and five straight Chicago-area residents, all strangers to one another, to live together for one week.

And yet now, two decades later, I watch it with a sense of melancholy. Most of them are blatantly unconstitutional—and will hopefully be overturned. Most reviews, by both critics and audiences alike, were also extremely positive.

I accepted the fact that I am bisexual at a very early age.
